Summer Solstice Celebration

What better way to spend the height of summer than at the Westview Summer Solstice Celebration! Come hang out with an afternoon full of fun activities for the whole family!

LOCATION
Join the Westview Community Organization at KIPP STRIVE Academy for music, art, and food as part of Westview’s Summer Solstice Celebration! KIPP STRIVE is located in the historic J.C. Harris school building at 1444 Lucile Avenue, 30310.

MUSIC
Come boogie down to some soul, funk, and classics with our local Djs – Theo, Ryze, and Quasar.

GRILL-OFF: TASTE OF WESTVIEW
Are you ready to sample a taste of southwest Atlanta? Get your “passport” and taste what our grill masters have created! The “passport” will allow you to sample the different foods (chicken and pork) plus a drink. Once you have tasted all the different categories submit your vote for “the best of…”.

The suggested donation for a “passport” is $5, although you are always welcome to donate more! You can go ahead and reserve your “passport” via PayPal and pick it up at will-call on the day of the event. (Just bring the printed PayPal receipt and/or your ID matching the PayPal records.)


GRILL-OFF: CONTESTANTS
This year’s celebration includes a grill-off, fostering friendly competition between neighboring communities in Southwest Atlanta. Teams from these neighborhoods have signed up to compete:

Historic Home Renovations

The Westview Community Organization recognized developer Jim Kelly at the Westview Community Organization meeting on Monday, June 6th, 2011, for his committment to “context sensitive design in his rehabilitaion of historic homes in Westview.” Photos of Jim’s quality work can be seen on the Westview Facebook page.

Jim is a resident of West End. Thanks, Jim, for helping to rehabilitate one of Westview’s most valuable assets – its historic homes!

Master Plan Adoption

The legislation to adopt the Westview Master Plan has been written, and it will be making its way through various hearings and committee meetings before going to City Council for a vote. Neighbors are encouraged to attend these meetings to answer questions and show support for the plan. Please mark two very important dates on your calendars:

– Public hearing on June 13th at 6:00pm

– Community Development/Human Resources Committee on June 14th at 12:30pm

Westview Open House

Are you interested in living in Westview? Great news – Westview is participating in an "Open House" this Saturday, May 7th! The event will be in conjunction with West Fest and Committed to Communities.

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Walking tours begin at 1052 Allene Avenue for open houses in Adair Park and Westview

Why: To encourage and showcase the possibilities of home ownership in our communities

Spring Clean-Up

Neighbors came together on Saturday, April 30th to clean up the community. The clean-up was additionally scheduled prior to the following weekend’s Westview Open House.

The Westview Community Organization would like to thank Councilman C.T. Martin for sponsoring the dumpster for the clean-up.

Police Beat Rezoning

The Atlanta Police Department is undergoing a beat redistricting. The changes are anticipated to take affect the summer of 2011. Part of the changes will include three new police cars and 15 new officers for Zone 4 (Westview’s police zone).

The majority of Westview is in Beat 402, with only a small slither between the BeltLine corridor and Langhorn Street belonging to Beat 401. Currently, Beat 402 is at 97% of an acceptable average workload (below average), and Beat 401 is at 117% of an acceptable average workload (above average). After the Beat changes take affect Beat 402 is anticipated to be at 69% of an acceptable average workload, and Beat 401 is anticipated to be at 108% of an acceptable average workload.
