Stokes Avenue Community Pocket Park

Park Taking Shape

Work on the Stokes Avenue Community Pocket Park continued on Saturday, June 16th, 2012. The park is starting to take shape – the picket fence is now complete, mulch was spread, additional landscaping was planted, and two raised beds were planted for a community herb garden. The work was rounded off with a picnic in the new park!

Stokes Avenue Pocket Park

Landscaping For Pocket Park

In April fence construction was started on the Stokes Avenue Community Pocket Park. On Saturday, May 19, 2012 neighbors came back together to continue work on the park-to-be. One crew continued work on the fence while another crew planted shrubs and perennial flowers. The fence is funded thanks to an NPU-T grant and the landscaping is funded thanks to the “Love Your Block” grant.

Keep your eyes peeled for future work days at the new Stokes Avenue Community Pocket Park!

Fall Clean-up

Fall Work Day

It was a busy day for Westview, and thankfully the weather was perfect. The Westview Community Organization organized a fall clean-up and Trees Atlanta had volunteers plant over 100 trees along Westwood Avenue.

Spring Clean-Up

Spring Clean-Up Photos

Neighbors came together on Saturday, April 30th to clean up the community. The clean-up was additionally scheduled prior to the following weekend’s Westview Open House.

The Westview Community Organization would like to thank Councilman C.T. Martin for sponsoring the dumpster for the clean-up.

Tree Planting

Trees Atlanta will be planting on Rogers Avenue on Saturday morning, January 8, 2011.

If you live on Rogers Avenue and would like a FREE tree for your yard please contact info@westviewatlanta.com. Here is a list of the trees available:

  • White oak
  • Southern red oak
  • Princeton American elm
  • Golden Globe ginkgo
  • Shangri-La ginkgo
  • Wildfire blackgum
  • American linden (basswood)
  • Nuttall oak
  • Tulip-poplar
  • Riverbirch
  • Red maple
  • American hornbeam
  • Overcup oak

Westview is losing a lot of old growth trees because of age. (The oaks in the list above are old growth trees, i.e., long lasting and large.) These trees make Westview so beautiful. You can establish a legacy for future residents of Westview by planting now, while at the same time having a nice, free, tree for your yard.

Additionally, smaller trees will be planted in the grass strip between the sidewalk and the roadway.

Fall Clean-Up

On November 6, we will once again partner with KIPP STRIVE Academy to pick up debris around our neighborhood. We will have over 100 students and parents of KIPP coming out to clean-up our neighborhood, we definitley want to have as many neighbors as possible to join them.

Lunch will be provided, courtesy of the staff of KIPP. We will focus on the streets listed below. Last year we saw that focusing on a few streets had a dramatic impact in one area. In the spring we will host a clean-up for another section of Westview.
