Development Committee Walk-Through

Development Committee Walk-Through

In 2010 the Westview Community Organization sponsored a planning session that resulted in the Westview Master Plan, which was later adopted by City Council and signed into law by Mayor Reed in 2011.

The Westview Community Organization’s Development Committee organized a 2-hour walk-through to show the areas that would be affected based on the plan. A follow-up walk will take place to touch on the areas that were not covered by the first walk.

2012 Westview Caroling

2012 Westview Caroling Photos

For the last two years a few lucky Westview neighbors had been able to enjoy the pleasure of carolers ringing their doorbell on December 24h. With all the hard work that was put into the Stokes Avenue Pocket Park in 2012 it only seemed appropriate to hold the 2012 Westview caroling event at the park. Neighbors decorated the park with string lights, brought snacks and beverages, and huddled around a small fire to sing Christmas songs.

2013 Westview Holiday Potluck

2012 Holiday Party Photos

The Westview Community Organization held its annual holiday potluck luncheon at Fire Station 17. The WCO cooked a turkey, and neighbors contributed delicious side dishes. The party is a nice way for neighbors to spend time together in a non-meeting setting and reflecting on the past year.

Thanksgiving Food Baskets

Thanksgiving Food Baskets

Every year the Westview Community Organization strives to help those in need around Thanksgiving time. For last year’s Thanksgiving neighbors donated personal care items that were given to a women’s shelter. In years prior to that the organization participated in providing food for a Thanksgiving meal for the seniors at The Atrium at CollegeTown.

This year the Westview Community Organization partnered with The Big Apple Inn to put together Thanksgiving food baskets for those in need of a helping hand. Thanks to all the generous donations four boxes of food items were collected and will be distributed via the Youth of Westview program.

The Westview Community Organization and The Big Apple Inn would like to thank all the neighbors, good Samaritans, and Westview businesses who donated towards this cause.

KIPP STRIVE Primary Construction

KIPP STRIVE Primary Construction

Construction of the KIPP STRIVE Primary School has been well under way since its groundbreaking in June 2012. The construction of the new school building is being funded thanks to a successful $10 million capital fundraising campaign. The new building is being constructed adjacent to the existing KIPP STRIVE Academy Middle School, which is housed in the nearly 100-year old former J.C. Harris Elementary School building. Kindergarten KIPPsters have started classes in 2012 in the middle school building and are due to move to their brand new classes in the 2013-2014 school year.

Trees Atlanta & HouseProud

Trees Atlanta and HouseProud Work Day

Saturday, October 27th, 2012 was a busy day for the Westview community. Both Trees Atlanta and HouseProud were in the neighborhood doing work.

Trees Atlanta got big help thanks to the fourth grade class (and their parents) from the Westminster School. Trees were planted along the landscape strip on Stokes Avenue and additional trees were planted in the front yard of houses on East Ontario Avenue.

In the meanwhile HouseProud and its volunteers were busy painting a house next to the Stokes Avenue Pocket Park. The owner, Ms. Pippy, was ecstatic about the work and even picked up the brush to do a little work.
