Join your neighbors, police, firemen and city officials on Tuesday, August 1st from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for food and public safety awareness! The event will be held 1635 Westwood Avenue (near the intersection of Manson).

National Night Out, ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime,’ was introduced by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) in 1984 to prevent crime, drugs and violence in cities across America. That first year, 400 communities in 23 states participated in National Night Out. Nationwide, 2.5 million Americans took part in 1984. National Night Out now involves over 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

National Night Out 2015Join your neighbors for food, school supplies, an art show and more as we unite against crime in the community!

POTLUCK

The Grill Masters from the 1600 Block of South Olympian Way and crew will be cooking!

Free food and drinks are being served and this is a potluck event. To ensure all may partake bring your own special dish to share! All items are welcome: ice, drinks, chips, buns, hot dogs, burgers (meat or veggie), cups, plates, napkins, utensils, coal, or lighter fluid. We will have a veggie grill or two going too! If you don’t care to cook and want to share items to be cooked, that works too!

TALENT SHOW

Additional activities include a talent show featuring participants from the 2015 Westview STEAM Empowerment Camp and you are invited to perform too.

Acknowledgments of those community heroes who have made the camp successful for a third straight year will be a highlight of the festivities. T-shirts and other art items will be auctioned off with proceeds going to next year’s camp or other youth driven activities.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

School supplies and back packs will given out while they last. Please donate any supplies to fill those book back packs.

On Tuesday, August 5, 2014, Westview community organizations joined hundreds of other neighborhood organizations across the country for National Night Out, a public safety awareness event.

The West End Coalition held its annual event at the intersection of Mathewson and Greenwich with food, music, and socializing. In the meanwhile the Westview Community Organization held its annual event at the intersection of South Olympian and Waters with food and an art auction held by the children that participated in the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) summer camp. Firefighters, police, and elected officials dropped by to celebrate the evening with neighbors.

National Night Out is an annual event taking place the first Tuesday in August throughout the United States. The Westview Community Organization held this year’s National Night Out in the southern part of Westview on a strip of land that will hopefully be turned into an official park in the future. The youth played a basketball tournament and police, firefighters, politicians, and neighbors chatted for this evening of public safety.
