Phoenix Flies: Wren’s Nest House Tours

The Wren’s Nest is the former home of Joel Chandler Harris author of the famous Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit tales. Harris lived in this Queen Anne Victorian home from 1881 to 1908 and penned many of the timeless stories on the front porch. Touring the Wren’s Nest will allow you to step back in time and enjoy a house tour.

This site is on the National Register of Historic Places.

About Phoenix Flies
The Phoenix Flies: A Celebration of Atlanta’s Historic Sites is returning for a 12th year! Atlanta’s historic built environment of buildings, landscapes and neighborhoods is an integral part of the City’s culture and economy. The Phoenix Flies Celebration provides an opportunity to learn about, celebrate and strengthen these assets to the benefit of all.

The Atlanta Preservation Center is the City’s private non-profit preservation organization. It was founded in 1979 to promote the preservation of Atlanta’s architecturally, historically and culturally significant buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes through education and advocacy.

Atlanta BeltLine Westside Bike Tours

The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership and Atlanta Bicycle Coalition offer free, guided bike tours of the Atlanta BeltLine on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. Enjoy the ride while you learn about the Atlanta BeltLine concept, history, and updates on project planning, implementation and development.

These tours will include rest stops highlighting assets and points of interest along the Atlanta BeltLine. Staff with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will lead the rides, and each group will have a ride sweep to help with any unexpected mechanical difficulties.

Riders should bring a multi-geared bicycle in good working condition, wear comfortable clothing, wear a helmet, and bring a water bottle. Plan to arrive 30 minutes early; availability is limited.

Registration:
We book Atlanta BeltLine Bike Tours one month at a time. The reservation system opens at 9:00 a.m. on the 25th of each month for the following month’s tour dates.

West End Tour of Homes

Our neighbors in West End are reviving their Tour of Homes this weekend. The tour will feature 11 homes in the historic neighborhood. The dates and times are: Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th. Both days are from noon until 5pm. Tickets are $15, and can be purchased on www.atlantawestend.com or at the Wren’s Nest (1050 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd).

Friday evening will kick off the weekend with a jazz concert at the Wren’s Nest Amphitheater. The concert will feature Theresa Hightower and goes from 7pm til 10pm. You are invited to bring your own food and drinks! Tickets can be purchased for $25 at www.atlantawestend.com.

Victorian Christmas at the Wren’s Nest

This Sunday, December 9th, the Wren’s Nest is hosting its annual Victorian Christmas to celebrate Joel Chandler Harris’s birthday. There will be birthday cake, storytelling, tours, and fun stuff for kids…. all for FREE! The cake will be cut at 3pm, so get there in time to join the celebration.
