Kids Gardening

Kids Learn To Garden

Westview residents have created their own version of the “Big Brothers/Big Sisters” program. A few neighbors have taken several neighborhood children under their wing to help them with homework, spend dinners together around the kitchen table, and be there to generally support them and teach them every day tasks.

One of the recent projects was learning about gardening. The Westview Community Garden provided a few empty plots to the kids. They weeded the beds and planted vegetables which they will be able to proudly watch grow.

Community Garden Workday

Community Garden Work Day

During the past weekend another community garden workday was organized to perform general upkeep tasks like spreading mulch, mowing the lawn, and tackling the weeds. The hard work was celebrated with a lunch from the freshly picked vegetables.

Thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation the garden group was able to purchase the tools necessary for the upkeep of the garden.

Community Garden

Property owner Mr. Mitchell has graciously provided an empty plot of land near the intersection of South Gordon Street and Ralph David Abernathy Blvd to the Westview Community Organization for use as a community garden. A group of neighbors tilled the land and set up plots in preparation for their garden. People interested in participating in the WCO community garden should email
