Julie Ann McKevitt BeltLine Mural Unveiling

Julie Ann McKevitt BeltLine Mural Unveiling

Artist Julie Ann McKevitt painted a mural of dogwood blossoms at the underpass of Westview Drive (at Langhorn Street) as part of the annual Art on the BeltLine project. For her official unveiling she invited friends and neighbors to come out for “paint and popsicles” (#paintandpopsicles). Participants had fun getting creative with their “I was here” handprint marks next to Julie Ann’s mural, all the while enjoying cold popsicles.

2014 Westview Summer Solstice Celebration

Westview Summer Solstice Celebration 2014 Photos

The 7th annual Westview Summer Solstice Celebration took place on Muse Street, adjacent to the Atlanta BeltLine, and featured a grill-off competition between southwest Atlanta neighborhoods and businesses, vendors, music, and a celebration of life service for the late community activist John Perdew.

Eleven grillers battled it out for the title of “Best Pork” and “Best Chicken.” The neighborhoods that were represented included Adair Park, Beecher-Donnelly, Capitol View, Mechanicsville, two West End entries, and five Westview entries. The title of “Best Pork” went to the Adair Park neighborhood, and the title for “Best Chicken” went to last-minute write-in contestant 1600 from the Westview neighborhood.

Unfortunately 2014 marked the first year the festival would experience rain in its seven year course. While the crowds diminished during the rain, those that stayed seemed to have just of a good time as any year, and all participants expressed excitement for next year’s festivities.

Thank you to all the visitors who came out to enjoy the event, the sponsors that helped make the event possible, the grillers that battled it out for the best food, the vendors who sold a diversity of items, and last, but not least, the crew that put the event together! See you next year!

On Saturday, June 14, 2014, the Atlanta BeltLine hosted the Atlanta BeltLine Annual Bicycle Tour. A full 27-mile loop and a half 16-mile loop were available; Westview received the honor of being a drive-through neighborhood for both tour options. In an effort to put the community’s best foot forward members of the Westview Community Organization came out to greet the visitors…and do some guerrilla advertising for the following weekend’s Westview Summer Solstice Celebration festival.

Westview Featured on Curbed

Westview In The Press

Westview received love from online real estate and neighborhood news outlet, Curbed, two days in a row!

The first article, published on June 5, 2014, titled “Historic Westview Exhibits Symptoms Of Beltline Fever,” shines a light on all the activities members of the Westview Community Organization are making happen in our beloved intown Atlanta neighborhood. Author Josh Green highlights our $40 homestead property taxes and multitude of available houses under $200k while pointing to the imminent construction of the Westside BeltLine trail (which comes straight through Westview).

In the second article, published on June 6, 2014, and titled “For Now, These Homes Near The Beltline Ask Less Than $200K,” author Kimberly Turner broadens the focus by not only highlighting Westview, but also a few nearby neighborhoods. The article showcases some of the affordable inventory available in southwest Atlanta and compares the quality to that of the much more pricey Eastside neighborhoods.

Thank you for the recognition, Curbed! We hope this will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship between Westview and Curbed.
