About Westview

Westview is a transitioning neighborhood located in southwestern Atlanta. The neighborhood is primarily made up of Arts and Crafts style bungalows dating back to the early 1900’s. The neighborhood also features a mixture of architectural styles including Four-Square, Tudor, Minimal Traditional and Ranch. An active neighborhood association with strong leadership plays an important role in the revival of the community.

The Westview neighborhood includes 40 residential streets and a small commercial corridor along Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard. Small landscaped green spaces dot the neighborhood and are maintained by the Westview Neighborhood Association. To the northwest of the neighborhood is the Westview Cemetery. It dates back to 1884 and is the largest cemetery in the southeastern United States.

In August 2005 the Westview Lofts opened in the village along Ralph David Abernathy (Read City Newsbytes Article). The construction of the lofts signaled the resurgence of both residential and commercial properties in the area. There is currently active construction taking place in the village, and neighbors are hoping for a nice new coffee shop or pizza place on the corner. Atlanta-Westview Holdings LLC is helping to redevelop the area.

Representatives and Public Safety

The Westview neighborhood is part of Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) T, which also includes West End, the Atlanta University Center, Ashview Heights, Harris Chiles, Just Us, and The Villages at Castleberry Hill.

Westview is divided between two City Council Districts (Atlanta City Council District Map). The majority of the neighborhood is part of District Ten where the current representative is Council Member C.T. Martin. The borders for this area are Ralph David Abernathy to Cascade, to Beecher, to South Gordon, to Westmeath, to Derry, and back to Ralph David Abernathy. The remaining neighborhood is part of District Four where the current representative is Council Member Cleta Winslow. The borders for this area is I-20 to Langhorn, to Lucile, to Ralph David Abernathy, and back to I-20.

Westview belongs in the Zone 4 Police District, currently headed by Major Yubuku. The majority of the neighborhood is covered by beat 402. Only the slither between the railroad tracks and Langhorn Street are covered by beat 401.

Recreation

Westview has wonderful recreational facilities by its fingertips. Sports enthusiasts can utilize the well maintained John A. White Park directly adjacent to Westview. The park features nine holes of golf and eight tennis courts.

For a quick nature getaway the 134-acre Cascade Springs Nature Preserve, with two creeks, a waterfall, hiking trails, and a lush hardwood forest, is just a short drive down Cascade Avenue.

The BeltLine in Westview

Westview is a BeltLine neighborhood! Groundbreaking for the Westview portion of the BeltLine trail took place on December 12, 2009 as part of the "Go West" Celebration with Mayor-elect Kasim Reed and other community leaders. The ribbon-cutting ceremony followed on June 26th, 2010 as part of the Westview Centennial Celebration.
